How Earth Rewards points support climate and community benefits in the Amazon.
Preventing deforestation across the Trocano Project REDD+ area helps mitigate climate change and protect vital rainforest ecosystems in the Amazon.
The project safeguards the homes, cultural heritage and livelihoods of the forest-dependent communities living in Trocano Borba through inclusive, long-term engagement.
Tangible social benefits include clean water systems, access to renewable energy, healthcare clinics and community centres that enhance wellbeing across the region.
The project protects the rich biodiversity of the Trocano Borba region, supporting global ecological health and underpinning its conservation impact.
The Amazon is the only rainforest with such a high level of biodiversity, covering 550 million hectares – over half of the world's total rainforest – and provides vital environmental and ecological resources for communities and the planet.
Each of its 390 billion trees plays a vital role in removing atmospheric carbon dioxide. There was once a balance between CO2 produced and absorbed, but the past decade has seen an excessive rise in CO2 levels caused by burning fossil fuels.
Rising CO2 levels are felt daily through increased air pollution, rising temperatures, melting ice caps and extreme weather conditions.
Earth Rewards environmental benefits are matched to Natural Capital Credit (NCC) certificates, fully verified high-quality carbon offsets with proven environmental benefits under ISO 14064-3 and ISO 14065 guidelines.
NCCs represent a combination of carbon, biodiversity and socio-economic benefits achieved through forestry protection projects, delivering a net positive impact on the environment.
Each NCC represents 1 tonne of CO2e avoided from entering the atmosphere, divided into 1,000 parts so that every Earth Reward equates to 1kg CO2e.
Each Earth Reward you collect can help to offset carbon impacts from your footprint. The lifehacks section of the Earth Rewards app offers hints and tips for reducing your carbon footprint, and you can then use your Earth Rewards (ERZ) to offset what remains.
